WORK EXPERIENCE
Management Consultant, Current Position, June 2001 - present
Pinnacle Associates, Mississauga, ON
Industry: IT, E-commerce, Publishing, Printing
I apply a general management
perspective to IT network, web site development and supervision (www.adviceforinvestors.com),
operations management, budgeting, business planning and reporting.
Accomplishments include implementation of a publishing circulation
and revenue forecasting model and development of a successful online
e-commerce business ( www.industrydepot.com).
Founder and President Current Position, May 1999 - present
Inventory Depot, Inc. aka Industry Depot, Toronto, ON
Industry: Internet E-commerce Business
I founded and manage www.industrydepot.com,
an industrial products e-commerce marketplace. Industry Depot sales and
earnings have been steadily growing by selling dependable equipment on a
drop ship basis, by developing positive relations with suppliers and
growing a repeat customer base. Drop shipping eliminates inventory
investment. Payments are by credit card or wire transfer with order which
eliminates collection problems and bad debts. Growth is also attributed to
effective online advertising using search engine optimization methods,
electronic newsletters, regular promotional emails and pay-per-click
advertising.
General Manager November 1996 - May 1999
Kestrel Machine Tools Inc., Mississauga, ON
Industry: Manufacturing - Machinery
I managed all facets of this manual and CNC lathe machine tool
manufacturing company. This business had emerged twice from bankruptcy yet
we developed a strong technical, sales and manufacturing team to produce
precision Standard-Modern lathes. After three years of competing with
off-shore competitors, the owner decided to scale down operations and
build only the simpler manual machines for a particular market niche.
President July 1988 - November 1996
Waterline Products Co. Limited, Mississauga, ON
Industry: Manufacturing – Plumbing & Bath-ware Products
I was President and general manager of this plumbing and bath-ware
products company that sold to the retail and wholesale construction
markets. Previous management had left Waterline Products in a difficult
position that we made profitable by eliminating losing lines, adding new
and innovative products and better merchandising. Team building, cost
controls and inventory reduction helped rejuvenate this business. After
the founder's death, his two sons had developed the managerial skills to
assume my managerial responsibilities. During my tenure, computerization
and more competent accounting personnel and systems resulted in improved
managerial control.
General Manager July 1982 - June 1988
Despatch Industries, Mississauga, ON
Industry: Manufacturing – Industrial Ovens
I was General Manager of this industrial oven and paint finishing system
manufacturing business.
General Manager April 1973 - June 1982
CAE Industries (Union Screen Plate & Welmet Industries subsidiaries),
Sherbrooke (Lennoxville), QC & Welland, ON
Industry: Manufacturing – Metal Processing
I managed these two foundry, machining and metal working subsidiaries of
CAE Industries that produced steel, iron and non-ferrous castings and
valves, industrial screen plates and supplied hard plating services.
Manufacturing Engineer & Sales Engineer September 1966 - April
1973
